    Erste Tage in Deutschland

[March 7-9]
The next day we left Ronda with our next destination being Granada.
We headed through breathtaking landscape in between some mountains and we cycled mainly flat or even downhill - we loved it!
In the evening we arrived in Antequera, a city which was recommended by two Spanish cyclists which we met on the way. The next morning we visited the city a bit and had a local variety of Gazpacho - the "porra antequerana".
We think we even prefers this variation over the poplar recipe! 45km later we found a wildcamping spot close to a small village.
The next days was full of adventures: we saw some strange monoculture forrests, cycled through a river and then we cycled through olive groves. Soon later it started to rain a very little bit but it was enough to turn the clayey soil into mud which got stuck between wheels and mudguard and totally blocked the bikes. Our only solution was to pull and push the blocked bikes (which felt like someone was constantly breaking). This worked for a few hundert meters until Hanna‘s rear mudguard suddenly broke! 🤯😭🤬
Being wet and tired and mad at the world, we decided to skip the planned wildcamping spot in some industrial ruins but to take the comfort of a hotel instead.

[March 5-6, Region of Malaga]
Finally we started cycling again! Initially we had planned to cycle along the coast but turns out that there were too many hotels and no possibility to (wild) camp.
So instead we headed towards the mountains, which meant a full day of cycling uphill (and a few km on a busy street we even skipped with the paralleling train). In the evening we arrived at a nice wild camping spot directly next to a river on a hiking path. The next day we were woken up by a group of goats and after breakfast we headed towards Ronda.
Since there were was only a few kilometers left until the city we decided to head to the view point of the city before. The views of the city which is built on the edge of two mountain plateaus and the bridge between them was just breathtaking.
However just after we arrived it started raining and that maid it quite difficult to push the bikes up the steep (wet) street back to the city.
In the evening we were hosted together with a French couple by a Dutch Warmshower host living in Spain and we had an amazing international dinner and evening together.

[March 4, Gibraltar]
When being so close we couldn't miss visiting Gibraltar. We slept just outside the border and dedicated a whole day to discovering the British Overseas Territory.
We decided to go on our bikes for two reasons: On one hand simply to gain back our fitness but also to have once in our life crossed a plane runway by bike. However climbing up the Rock of Gibraltar was quite hard, even though we didn't bring any luggage!
Besides the famous Saint Michael cave and the wild monkeys on the mountain we also visited the Europe Lighthouse which is the most Southern Point and has amazing views back to Morocco. Since we were on British territory we obviously also had to eat some fish and chips.

We left for our journey on May 3, 2022 with the plan to cycle once around Europe. In the following 360 days we cycled 11.250 km! However after discovering the North, West and South (blue line) we are still missing East.
Therefore we we will start again with our bikes in mid septemer heading always (South-)East!
Our planned route so far is the red one (the thin one only if we have enought time). Can you recommend any areas to visit, citys or sights, or great cycling routes?

[March 1-3, Fes, Morocco]
The region north of Fes, the Riff Mountains, was not considered to not be very safe for wild camping, accommodations did not exist (at least online) and it is quite hilly. Since we feared that we would be quite out of shape we decided to take the bus once more. That meant we had to skip the famous blue city of Chefchauen but enjoyed the beautiful city of Tetouan, where we arrived by bus.
The day after we arrived at the Mediterranean Sea for the first time on our journey, Herbert's stomach finally accepted more than just plain white bread and the next day we arrived in Ceuta, the Spanish enclave on the African Continent from where we took a ferry back to Europe.

[February 25-28, Fes, Morocco]
Herbert's stomach was still a bit upset so we decided to still take it slow. For a few days, we developed our personal "Moroccan lifestyle" with going to the market, cooking in a tajine but also having amazing street food and visiting impressive sights.

Once in Morocco, we couldn't miss out on visiting the Sahara desert. We booked a (quite disappointing) bus tour but were highly impressed by the desert itself.
Enjoy the pictures! 📸

In our Airbnb Hanna recovered after two more days and as soon as she was feeling better Herbert got food poisoning. Even though there was always one of us being sick we tried to discover the city as relaxed as possible.
